Heron Solar Farm
Unlocking enough clean domestic energy to meet the equivalent annual needs of over 7,900 UK homes
The Need For Solar
Climate change has undoubtedly become the defining issue of our time, exacerbated by expensive energy costs driven by a reliance on costly fossil fuels. To respond to this crisis the UK has made a commitment to achieve a net zero fully decarbonised power grid by 2035. This can only be achieved through the rapid adoption and roll-out of reliable, affordable, and clean energy sources like solar.
In 2021, Rushcliffe Borough Council published its Climate Change Strategy, setting a target for the borough to lead the way and become carbon neutral by 2030. Solar farms, such as Heron Solar, will make a meaningful contribution to both local, and national climate commitments, and help tackle both the climate, and cost of living crises we face.
Our Proposals
- Heron Solar Farm would be located off of Stragglethorpe Road, between Cotgrave and Radcliffe on Trent.
- Heron Solar Farm would generate enough energy to meet the needs of over 7,900 Nottinghamshire homes, saving over 18,000 tonnes of CO2 each year – the equivalent of taking over 9,700 cars off the road.
- The site would be preserved as greenfield before, during, and after it is decommissioned, safeguarding the area from industrial/residential development and keeping its greenbelt status.
- Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on site, ensuring the solar farm can be as flexible as possible in delivering energy to the grid.
Community Consultation
Our plans are at an early design stage, and we would be pleased for you to be involved in shaping the proposals by participating in our community consultation.
Our community consultation on proposals for Heron Solar Farm will run from Thursday 31 August 2023 to Wednesday 20 September 2023. During which, information about the plans will be available on this website.
We are also holding an in-person information event on Thursday 7 September 2023 from 2pm to 7pm at Cotgrave Social Club, NG12 3PJ.
